  19. Welcome to the Xtreme demo ! This is probably the very first Acorn demo made
  20. by several foreign demo crews together.  It features several exciting
  21. techniques never shown in the Acorn demo scene until now.
  22.  
  23. Have fun with this demo and may this be the beginning of a new era in the
  24. Acorn demo making.

  27. Interesting bits
  28. ----------------
  29.  
  30. - Every demo part can be skipped by pressing the <Esc> key.  In some rare
  31. cases when the responce on the <Esc> key is not immediately, have just a
  32. little bit of patience.
  33.  
  34. - Pressing <Ctrl><Esc> will stop the demo completely.
  35.  
  36. System requirements
  37. -------------------
  38.  
  39. Xtreme will run on many Archimedes and RiscPC machines however not all demo
  40. parts will work on the low end machines.  Some demo parts will (most of the
  41. time silently) be skipped when the necessairy hardware (e.g. VIDC20) isn't
  42. available.  If you want to see every demo part in its full glory, run the
  43. demo on a RiscPC with 1 MByte VRAM !
  44.  
  45. RISC OS 3.1
  46.  
  47. Xtreme needs at least RISC OS 3.1 as we used various RISC OS 3.1 features
  48. which made our lives easier.  If you don't have RISC OS 3.1 (or higher), then
  49. the only option is to upgrade your OS.  We're Xtremely sorry for this.
  50.  
  51. Necessairy free memory 
  52.  
  53. We also recommend you have at least 1.6 MByte RAM *free* (ie. the sum of the
  54. 'Next' and 'Free' slot in the Task Manager window).  When there is less
  55. memory free, you'll risk to miss the best bits.
  56.  
  57. RiscPC
  58.  
  59. The RiscPC has a nice feature for defining new screenmodes.  For the Xtreme
  60. demo we need the following three modes definitions : 320x256, 640x256 and
  61. 640x480.  When these mode definitions are not available on your system, you
  62. will be asked if we may add them to your current mode definition file. 
  63.  
  64. Dragging your current mode definition file to the window will do all
  65. necessairy things automatically for you.  But you can also add the
  66. definitions yourself by adding the Xtreme mode definitions (the files
  67. '320x256', '640x256' and '640x480' in the directory <Xtreme$Dir>.Resources)
  68. at the end of your mode definition file and don't forget to reload the new
  69. mode definiton file.  In the latter case, be sure that you don't have twice
  70. the same mode defined.

  72. Why "Xtreme" ?

  77. ...because there are Xtremely many X's in Eddie's name
  78. ...because there are Xtremely many rotation routines used
  79. ...because we have Xtremely many routines and idea's left unused :-(

  81. ...and because its first name, "EuroDemo", sounds so dull

  87. and are *UNALTERED*.  No charge may be imposed except for a *small* amount
  88. for media and copying.  Please bear in mind we wrote this during our
  89. spare time and do not gain anything on it !!!

  103. ¹ Unfortunately Armaxess canceled their Xtreme participation just before the
  104. deadline.  We're Xtremely sorry not to be able to include their demo parts as
  105. their work is always of outstanding quality.  Let's hope that the things
  106. they've written for Xtreme demo so far don't get lost and find their way in
  107. another demo production.
